Recognition of Palestine in International Law: Australian and New Zealand Perspectives

Announcements in quick succession by France, the UK and Canada that they would move to recognise Palestine at the forthcoming UN General Assembly meetings has placed a spotlight on how Australia and New Zealand will respond. Foreign Ministers Peters and Wong signed a 29 July Joint Statement along with 13 others that reiterated an 'unwavering commitment to the vision of the two-State solution where two democratic States, Israel and Palestine, live side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders, consistent with international law and relevant UN resolutions'.

With the General Assembly due to meet from 9 September and a growing momentum towards Palestinian recognition, speakers will address these issues from an Australian, New Zealand, and international state recognition law perspective.

ANZSIL's International Peace and Security Interest Group (IPSIG) and the New Zealand Centre for Public Law at Victoria University of Wellington, Te Herenga Waka, is pleased to co-host this seminar on Monday 18 August 2025 at 3PM-4PM (AEST) and 5PM-6PM (NZT).
