The International Court of Justice at 80: 'In Conversation' with Judge Hilary Charlesworth

The Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law (ANZSIL) and the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL) are pleased to present this webinar with Judge Hilary Charlesworth of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in conversation with Professor Alison Duxbury, on the role of the ICJ in its 80th year.

Judge Hilary Charlesworth 

Judge Hilary Charlesworth was re-elected to the International Court of Justice on 9 November 2023, having been elected on 5 November 2021 to serve the remainder of the late Judge James Crawford’s term. Prior to her election, Judge Charlesworth was Harrison Moore Professor of Law and a Melbourne Laureate Professor at Melbourne Law School. She was also a Distinguished Professor at the Australian National University and has been a member of the Executive Council of the Asian Society of International Law and the American Society of International Law as well as President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law. Judge Charlesworth is a member of the Institut de Droit International and the British Academy. She chaired the ACT’s Consultative Committee on the Introduction of a Bill of Rights in 2001 and was involved in the introduction of the ACT Human Rights Act 2002. Judge Charlesworth's research has included international and Australian human rights law, feminist approaches to international law, peacebuilding, and international institutions.

Professor Alison Duxbury is a member of faculty at Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, the President of Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law, and a former member of the Executive Council of the Asian Society of International Law.

The webinar will be chaired by Associate Professor Cheah W.L., a member of the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore, and Secretary-General of the Asian Society of International Law.
